This was probably also the coolest team project I’ve ever worked on. We all had our own roles, and we were all working together at the same time. I was mainly in charge of taking the provided Photoshop files, and turning them into a website. I coded much of the CSS, and built a lot of the pages.

Our developer implemented the sliding accordions on the pages that have open and close content. He also did a lot behind the scenes as this site does some really cool fancy stuff in ASP.

This site has also been tested to work in Firefox, Internet Explorer 8, IE7, and even IE6. This was something that the site needed to have done since a lot of their customers ma

BoxCrush.com was built on WordPress. My task was to design, and build the site. The majority of the site design and coding was done by myself. The thought process went back and forth between myself and the boss until we came to a final design. Building the site was also a challenge. Not only was I in charge of coding the HTML and CSS, I also had to figure out a lot of the PHP on my own. During the process I would come across things that were just too over my head. So for those items, we had a PHP guy complete those tasks.

While this is a WordPress site, I’ve tried to hide that fact that it is one. When a lot of people use WordPress, they pick a popular theme, but leave some very tale-tell signs as to which theme they are using. I’m sure you can figure out which theme BoxCrush was based off of. Also the functionality of the site is something you won’t see strait out of the box. Each portfolio piece is a Post, and depending on what kind of post it is, it will get divided up to the Page it needs to be on. And this was probably the most challenging parts of the site.

And not only did I build this site, I built it twice. First time was with WordPress 2.7. And the second time was with WordPress 3.0. We did this to specifically take advantage of some of the new features included in Wordpress 3, and to make it much more simple to add new portfolio pieces. Some CSS was cleaned up along the way too.

Exploded Pen was built as a way for me to take note of what I like. As a designer I find inspirations in a lot of things. And I’m usually always telling co-workers to check out this site, that product, or this video. So I created Exploded Pen as a visual bookmarking tool.

But its not just for me. Anyone can add what they like as well. I have made it simple for someone to come to the site and add their own images and copy. If they’re lazy, I also have a simple “request a link” form, where I’ll go and do the dirty work for them.

Hanger3.com is my baby. Launched in 2006, it quickly gained popularity. At the time I was the only independent maker of necklaces featuring old, retired, vintage subway tokens. Now in the past few years, quite a few vendors have popped up. Sometimes I like to think that I inspired them. In one case, I know I did.

It had been a dream of mine to start a website that people actually cared to visit. I wanted to keep it simple, and easy to maintain. The first product I thought I would sell were t-shirts. But after doing research, I quickly dropped that idea due to the cost, amount of storage I’d need, and just the vast number of other sites out there. I wanted to create something unique that others hadn’t really thought of before.

Just a few months after the site going live, I was contacted by Real Simple Magazine. They featured my necklaces in their holiday gift guide, and also took my necklaces with them when they featured a group of gifts on the CBS Early Show.

Everything from the design, to the coding, to the product photography was done by myself. If you were to place an order today, I’ll get the email on my phone, and have your order packaged and in the mail in a day or two. Its a fun hobby, playing micro corporate business owner.
